The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced new payout dates for old age grant and disability grant recipients.
This is in a bid to reduce queues amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement issued on Monday, Sassa Gauteng spokesperson Nandi Mosia explains how the dates will work.
“Older persons grants will be paid from 3 August 2020 followed by the disability grant on 4 August 2020.
“Old age grant beneficiaries receiving a child support grant and foster child grant will also be able to access the linked children grants on the same day. All other children’s grants will be paid from 6 August 2020,” Mosia details.
No need to rush
Sassa emphasises that beneficiaries do not need to withdraw their social grants on the day of payment.
“Once the money is in the beneficiary’s account it will remain in the card for a period of three months. There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day,” Mosia adds.
Social grants payment can be collected at Post Office outlets, merchants and ATMs.
When collecting their social grants, beneficiaries are requested to always wear their mask and adhere to social distancing.
Monday marks day 123 since a nationwide lockdown had been implemented in South Africa.
Grant payments have not gone completely smoothly during this time.
The agency experienced several challenges including long queues resulting in the shortage of money to pay beneficiaries in the Post Office.
