Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY
The incumbent will be responsible for the administration of the nursing department and will also be responsible
for assisting with improved quality nursing care by ensuring compliance to professional and ethical practice,
Nursing act, 2005 (Act no.33 of 2005), all Healthcare legislation, Basic Conditions of employment, Policies and
Procedures and Core standards.
The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with monitoring and ensuring that nursing care and service
delivery is implemented and practiced within a multi-disciplinary quality assurance team.
KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Financial, Strategic Planning, Budget, Stock
 Schedule appointments with Specialists and/or Theatre
 Assisting with safe quality nursing care : permanent and temp nursing staff
 Assist with Equipment need analysis for budget / Capital expenditure purposes – New Medical equipment,
preventative services and repair and maintenance within legal specifications
Reception, Bookings and Payments
 Ensure correct billing, assist with stock management, month end, stock take and purchasing according to
standard product list and minimum and maximum stock levels
 Open patient file on ME+
 Allocate incoming patients as per triage policy
 Fulfil the reception function for nurses station, i.e. answering calls, taking messages, monitoring access
 Make insurance bookings / appointments
 Capture insurance medicals
 Fax invoice & insurance to MBCH
 Receive proof of payment
 Provide patients with health care education sheets
 Be willing to listen, help and take action of all customer complaints
Stock Control
 Monitor and order stationary required
 Order Waste man stock
 Participate in stock takes and assist with inventory
 Assist in cycle count as per schedule
 Assist in stock management as requested by Charge Nurse
 Order Ampath stock
Clinical governance, OHS, Infection control
 Assist with investigating of all negative clinical incidents
 Assist with monitoring safety standards in accordance with the Machine and Occupational Safety Act (Act 6 of
1983)
 Report all accidents and incidents to Line Manager / Safety Representatives
Housekeeping
 Ensure the nurses station and nursing department are kept neat and tidy
 Ensure together with the team correct Waste disposal management
 Ensure together with the team correct Contaminated linen management
Core Standards
 Assist with compliance on protocols, policies and Acts
 Report all equipment not in working order
 Assist with the control of asset register
 Assist with Medical Healthcare waste management and compliance to legal requirements
 Participation , Representation e.g. : Occupational Health and safety and Infection and prevention
 Assist with ensuring unit is providing safe, cost effective quality patient care in line with Clinical Governance
strategy and evidence based practice
 Assist with evaluating of the patient’s journey through patient experience and stakeholder input
 Assist with evaluation of nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes
 Effective communication with patients regarding their care
 Promotion of health and well being
 Ensuring the principles of infection prevention and all standard precautions are adhered to; ensure clean
hygienic environment
 Promote good public relations with patients, relatives, visitors and sales representatives
 Identify quality improvement opportunities and assist with implementation of appropriate strategy and
Quality Improvement initiatives
 Assist with implementing group quality initiatives
Client relationship
 Assist with effective and formal communication : Enrolled Nurse to attend Sisters meetings
 Assist and ensure a professional environment at all times : Netcare way , Medicross Policies and Procedures

Qualifications and Experience

EDUCATION
 Enrolled Nurse Qualification
 Enrolled with the South African Nursing Council
WORK EXPERIENCE
 Secretarial or Administration Background
 Computer literate
 Knowledge of SAP IS-H is advantageous
KNOWLEDGE
 Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
